WHITEWATER RAFTING
OCOEE RIVER
September 13th - 14th, 2003

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE RAFTING TRIP

MEET:  Port City Shopping Center Parking Lot @ 8:00 am.  We will need to pack the trailer. We will leave any cars in the lot and have Mooresville Police Department keep an eye on them over the weekend.  A better alternative is to have parents carpool and drop off several participants and pick them up on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.  You may bring cell phones if you like to make any last minute arrival time corrections.
DEPARTURE: is at 8:30 am SHARP!!
RETURN TIME: on Sunday will be around 4:00 pm
MONEY:  Cost: $46-for rafting plus $35-for van rental, fuel, food, and camping.  $80 TOTAL   For the road, eat breakfast at home or bring with you.  Bring $MONEY$ for lunch on Saturday in mountains and lunch on Sunday. You may want to bring money for photos and T-shirts at the rafting company.  They will take a check or credit card.
LOGISTICS: We will rendezvous with Derek Miller's crew and some of our college members in Statesville at ~9:00am and redo luggage and meet the other participants.  Then, it's a long haul to TENNESSEE!  We'll find the campsite first, drop off the trailer and gear, and then head to the rafting outfitters.
We need to be at the Outfitters by not later than 4:45pm Our rafting time-slot is at 5:30pm.
After rafting, we'll set up camp, and make a campfire the size of Montana.  After that, we'll roast marshmallows, swap ghost stories, maybe sing songs, laugh, make new friends, and generally have a great time. Dinner and breakfast will be group meals, provided by Dave, prepared by all of us. Everyone will be expected to pitch in with setting up and breaking down the camp, preparing and cleaning up after dinner. Conscientious objectors will be skewered, roasted with S'mores, and served with lemonade.  We'll depart from campground on Sunday morning, ~8am, so that we can be back around 4pm.

The trip will go Rain or Shine!!!!!

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT:  DO bring a change of clothes (think LAYERED clothing for warmth, as it may get cool in the evening).  DO bring sunscreen, swimsuit, a towel, and old sneakers, water shoes, or sandals. Sandals have to attach around the ankle and be secure. No flip-flops.  If you wear glasses, you'll need a croakie or something to fasten them to your body.  For camping, the only thing you'll need is a sleeping bag, toiletries, and a change of clothes for ONE night. A poncho would be handy if it rains.  Perhaps you will pack a small flashlight, insect repellent, and a waterproof camera, if you're a shutterbug. We have tents, stoves and lanterns.   This is an overnight camping trip, not a month-long trek into the wilderness, so limit yourself to your sleeping bag and ONE duffel bag. Please put your name on your gear.  PACK LIGHT!

SEE YOU BRIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY MORNING September 13th !!

Parents,
We need your permission to take your son/daughter on the road and into the mountains and down the river for the weekend on the rafting trip.  We will take all reasonable precautions and do everything that we can to ensure that your son/daughter has a safe and memorable experience, and we (the Staff and I) will care for them as our own.  Your signature is your permission for your son/daughter to attend as well as permission to treat if your son/daughter is injured.  Thanks!!!
