VENTURE               CREW 444
Leonids Meteor Shower Stargaze

WHEN:  Monday Night Late and Early Tuesday Morning - November 18-19, 2002  Meet at Dollar General and Little Kitchen Parking Lot @ 12:00 am- leave at 12:30 am sharp.

WHERE: After meeting we will travel a short distance to the observing site.  Most likely it will be the back fields of Carrigan Farms.  We want to all arrive at one time  together so as to not disturb the neighbors.  Once we get settled it should get interesting as the Constellation Leo rises in the east.  If we are lucky, we will get to see many meteors per hour ad with clear skies forecast, we should have excellent viewing.  Some predictions say that we might get to see as many as 6-12 meteors per second with the peak at around 5 am.

WHAT:  Meteor Shower Stargaze.

WHO:   Venture Crew Members and Parents and Families.    Parents are always welcome and invited as well as family members who would like to participate in this event.

WHAT TO BRING:  Permission Slip (print from website)  , Warm clothes, Smacks and munchies, cup for ramen noodles, hot chocolate, coffee, water bottle, sleeping bag or heavy blanket, gloves, warm hat, personal tarp to lay out on or a trifold lawn chair, small flashlight with red lens, star charts (if you have them), and of course- an enterprising spirit, indefatigable curiosity, and unbridled enthusiasm about a great time in the Great Outdoors with your Venture Crew Friends.
We will have "Big Bertha"  The "GIANT" cook stove and loads of hot water for Hot Chocolate and Ramen Noodles during the stargaze.   Bring your favorite kind and a cup and spoon to eat with.

DEPARTURE:  We will leave for home sometime around 5:30 am unless the meteors are still putting on a great show.  Severall folks have said that they might like to go out and get breakfast before returning home.  If you do this, please let your parents know that you will be coming home around first light.

There are some great web sites to check out before coming on this trip.
